uDesire AI Review: One of the Cleanest Chat Apps I've Tested, Until You Ask for a Photo

uDesire AI is app number twenty on my roster, and it is the most stripped-back one so far. My plan for every platform is the same: skim the site cold, poke at whatever's available without an account, sign up, squeeze the free tier dry, and only then pay. Here the free tier was five messages as a guest and ten on a free account, and the paid month cost $12.99 with a first-month coupon.

So, who is uDesire AI actually for?

Two days in, my read is this: uDesire AI is for people who just want to chat with an AI girlfriend and do not want a dashboard full of features to get there. The interface is one of the cleanest I have used, the chat window is nothing but the chat, and the replies are detailed and warm. The basics are all there, gifts, a roleplay mode, photo and video requests, voice messages, and nothing else competes for your attention. For a light user who wants something minimal and easy, it is close to perfect.

Where it falls down is pictures. The photos lean obviously AI, they do not follow the conversation, explicit images are off the table even though the chat side advertises NSFW, and the custom image generator I paid for told me I had 0 credits left. I have reached out to the developer about that last one and will update this review when I hear back. More days below as they happen.

A homepage that looks like a dating site

My first impression of uDesire AI: it has one of the cleanest interfaces I have seen on any of these platforms. There are only a few things to click, and the AI girlfriends are right there when the homepage loads. It looks more like a casual dating site than a companion app. Each card has a name, an age and an opening message from the girl, no location. The sidebar is Generate Image, Create Your AI, Premium and an Affiliate Program, and that's it. There is a new group chat feature on the banner too, several characters in one room.

Five messages, then a wall

As always I tried chatting without an account. I opened Isolde, a fellow adventurer who loves trails, and her replies were genuinely good. When I asked whether she had a boyfriend, she said she did, and that chatting with me felt a bit like doing something wrong. That's part of her character, and I liked it. It is a nicer touch than every girl on a platform being single and waiting for you.

Five messages in, it locked. I tried other girls and they were locked for me too, so the five are across the whole site, not per girl. And when I went back to Isolde, our conversation was gone. Without an account nothing is saved.

Ten messages that come back in hours

With nothing else to do, I made a free account. Google sign-up, easy. Isolde's chat had been wiped, so I tried someone new: Genevieve. The girls introduce themselves with a message rather than a proper bio, so you don't get much of a sense of how each one will behave. Their photo and profession fill in most of it, though, so it's not really a problem.

Genevieve surprised me. From the first message she treated me as her boyfriend, which I did not expect on a first chat. I think that is how she's written: to play your girlfriend from the start. Next to Isolde, who has a boyfriend and knows it, that's a good sign. The characters hold their own setup.

One bug: a message I sent came back with an error saying there was a problem processing it and to try again. I sent it a second time and it went through, which is why the same message sits in the chat twice below. A small thing, but it counted against my allowance.

After ten messages on the free account, I was locked again. The good part is the lock itself: it said the limit would reset in 3 hours and 21 minutes. Most of the apps on my roster make you wait a full day for free messages to come back. For a very light user, ten messages every few hours is a decent free tier.

The free photo I couldn't see

Before paying, I checked in on the free account. My messages were back and my chat with Genevieve was still there, so the account does save things. The free account advertises a daily image limit of one photo a day. So I asked Genevieve for one, and it arrived locked. I couldn't view it. If there's a daily allowance of one photo, I should at least be able to see that one photo. As it stands, it reads like false advertising.

$12.99 for the first month, then $19.99

Once my ten messages were spent again, there was nothing left to do but subscribe. There are two tiers, Premium and Ultra Premium, each with monthly, three-month and annual plans. On the monthly, Premium came to $12.99 and Ultra Premium to $24.99. As always, I took the cheapest plan and the monthly billing, which gives me a month to test.

Premium includes unlimited conversations, 100 images a month, five 5-second videos a month, 1,500 voice credits a day, five custom companions and priority processing. That's a good deal, especially next to the free account's ten messages: chatting doesn't spend credits at all, and 100 images a month sounds generous at $12.99.

There's a catch in the price. Premium monthly is actually $19.99; the checkout applied a Premium coupon of $7 off, so I was charged $12.99. That discount is for the first month only. If you keep the subscription, the second month is $19.99. As I always do, I cancelled straight after subscribing so I don't get charged again by accident. If I want to continue, I'll resubscribe. The biller at checkout was UDEVOAI LIMITED, and the notification from my bank just said UDEVOAI. Neither screams AI girlfriend, so if a discreet line on your statement matters to you, this one qualifies. It's one of the things I check on every app, listed in what I check before paying for an AI girlfriend.

How you ask for a photo matters

Back in Genevieve's chat, I tried to unlock the photo from the free account. It opened a page not found error, and the photo still said upgrade now, even though I had. My guess is that it broke because I requested it on the free account. Either way, a bug. Then I asked her for another photo and she declined, saying it wasn't possible right now. That made no sense on a paid plan.

I found the proper way in afterwards: a plus button in the composer that asks her to send an image or a video. That's clear enough. But typing is hit and miss. "Send me another photo," those exact words, got a no. "Send me a picture of you" got a photo. If you're asking in the chat, the wording apparently matters more than it should.

Genevieve, and the trip she gets to keep

As on every app, I planted the 1-week memory test today, with Genevieve, since we already had some conversation behind us: the same trip every girl on my roster hears about once and never again. Her answer was the most in-character one yet. She raised an eyebrow, a touch jealous that I was only telling her now, not sure she was okay with two nights away, and then made me promise to bring her back some strawberry taho. So far she has the full context. Now seven days of small talk, a few messages a day, then the vague question. Her result lands in my 7-day memory test post around October 7.

Too perfect, and out of context

Now the photos. Genevieve is thick, on the chubby side, and the image she generated looked unreal: too smooth, too perfect, and her face looked small and out of proportion with her body. It didn't feel consistent. I tried Seraphina too, and hers was better, still leaning AI but a pretty good shot for realism. The problem there was context. She told me she was in the middle of a yoga session and a bit sweaty, and the photo showed her fresh, dry and posed in a kitchen. The picture ignored the conversation it was sent in.

The bigger pattern shows on the homepage once you're logged in. The girls all share one structure: a portrait shot, a blurred background, and different faces, eyes, outfits and hair on the same template. Too perfect to read as real. I'll put uDesire AI through my proper image test separately, but so far the images look more AI-generated than anything that would pass for a photo.

Building Mei

Next I tried Create Your AI. The options run in order: style (I picked realistic), age (around 28), ethnicity (Caucasian), eye colour (brown), hair colour (red), hairstyle (long), body type (average), breast and butt size, and a voice, with five to choose from. I don't care much about voice, and like most of these apps the samples sounded robotic to me. After that come personality, occupation and interests. I went romantic, a writer, into fitness, movies and travel. Name, description and first message are optional, and I left them to the app.

Then the image test proper. I opened a chat with Rhea and asked for a photo of her lying in her bed, which isn't exactly explicit. She replied that she couldn't send that image. I wasn't sure whether that counted as explicit, so I tried the same request with Genevieve, where we already had a conversation going.

Explicit photos: a no

Genevieve gave me the same answer to a photo of her lying in bed: she couldn't send that image. So I asked for something explicit, a nude, and she couldn't send that either. uDesire AI says it supports both SFW and NSFW chats, and I think that's exactly the scope: the chats. Images are not included. If explicit pictures are what you're after, this is not the app for you.

25 generations remaining, 0 credits left

Last, the Generate Custom Images page. You pick one of your girlfriends or one from the library, fill in the custom options, and generate. I chose Mei, lingerie for the outfit, standing for the pose and a bedroom for the scene, and asked for one image. The page said I had 25 daily generations remaining. The error above the settings said the monthly limit was reached: I had requested 1 and only had 0 credits left. Both on the same screen.

I tried again and got a paywall this time: daily limit reached, upgrade to Premium. I am on Premium. I paid $12.99 for a plan that lists 100 images a month, so I should at least be able to use the image generator. I've reached out to the developer about it, and I'll update this post when they tell me it's fixed.

Where uDesire AI shines

So I found a few issues. What uDesire AI does best is still clear: a clean, minimalist interface, and a chat box that lets you focus on the chat. The replies are good and detailed, especially Genevieve's. The chat extras are the basics most people actually use: send a gift, turn on roleplay mode, ask for a picture or a video, turn a message into a voice message. That's it. For someone who isn't after extra features and simply wants to talk to an AI girlfriend, it's a great fit. The pictures and the bugs, the image generator most of all, are where it needs work.
